This weird album was sent in by a record label. It is an interesting listen with several tracks that seem achingly too-short, and some that are the perfect length. The first track has bizarre vocals, and the album features an equally bizarre and distracting music video for the sixth track (watch here).
The titular track is good, with some great lyrics – “More awake when asleep, like me”. I wish it was longer.
Leon Patriz combines a dark, atmospheric aesthetic with lighthearted and talented guitar-focused tracks. The effects-heavy mood of the album is pleasant on the ears, although a more energetic direction should definitely be worth pursuing.
It took me two listens to appreciate the finer points of this 13-track album. If you have a moment, I recommend giving it a try. For fans of Animal Collective, Hypothermia and Jackson C. Frank.
