This album starts strongly with unique instrumentals/samples that compliment the alternative style and content of Mikes rapping. The subject matter is diverse and at many times poetic and abstract, sounds derivative of Aesop rock and he even features on a bonus track. The features are hand picked and complement the project well, although I think he is choosing featured artists from his own camp, rather than picking from all the artists in the world that inspire him. One part I felt was sonically missing from the project was the inclusion of the female voice, even just as an instrument would have been nice and complimented the more melodic floaty singing moments on the record. The hooks are not annoying at all, also not very memorable. I think this is a positive in this case, It’s harder to get further listens when some of the songs become summed up by a chorus that stays with you and hijacks the song in it’s entirety. I’m not a huge fan of the opening track the song with a secret name, It only has 12 Shazams so perhaps this is a common opinion. The album picks up and is a really strong album after that hiccup of a song/intro. Also Mike unironically raps about the blockchain, which must be an L. The album is 37 minutes and change, and is a great length to leave you wanting more. No stand out singles for me at this stage, but a really great album to enjoy from beginning to end. A strong album. I’d give it a decent 8.
