You saw our review of MAHAL, now we have the distinct privilege of announcing the MAHAL film! It’s set in San Francisco, and we’re pleased today to present you with the global premiere.

We don’t usually see albums turned film, so this is a very exciting time. It’s coming to cinemas, and I say this before I see the pre-release. I’ll get my hands on some tickets to give away as soon as I can.

edit:

Just finished the film, and I will say this: Toro y Moi is an industry sweetheart, a prototypical artist that is waiting to unfold. In the film, he doesn’t stand a chance against Eric Andre’s voracious acting and natural charisma, but I think in about 20 years Toro y Moi will be a household name. From someone who’s done it all, I would advise Toro y Moi to follow the lead of artists such as Flying Lotus, who don’t do much work and make some very awesome tracks with great features.

I think this genre of film is an important one to explore and maybe it will be taught in the media studies classrooms of the future. Two middle fingers.
